Ribbon Fiber Splice Protection Sleeve – 4/6/8/12 Fibers

A ribbon fiber splice protection sleeve is a heat-shrinkable protector designed for a mass-fusion splice in which multiple optical fibers are arranged and spliced as one ribbon.

Unlike a round single-fiber splice sleeve, the HHD Fiber ribbon-type sleeve has a wider construction and uses one or two ceramic strength members to reinforce the flat splice area after shrinking.


HHD Fiber supplies configurations for 4-fiber, 6-fiber, 8-fiber and 12-fiber ribbons fiber optic splice protection sleeve, with 40 mm and 60 mm sleeve lengths. This product is also described as a ribbon fiber fusion splice sleeve, mass fusion splice sleeve, multifiber splice protector or, in UK terminology, a ribbon fibre splice sleeve.

Single-Ceramic or Double-Ceramic Construction

A single-ceramic ribbon splice sleeve uses one ceramic strength member and has a smaller after-shrink size.

A double-ceramic ribbon splice sleeve uses two ceramic strength members and has a larger reinforced construction. Selection should be based on the ribbon fiber count, required mechanical support, splice tray dimensions and fusion splicer heating-oven capacity.
